High Road Enterprises (HRE) began as an auto shop program specializing in 4x4 vehicles at a high school in Bakersfield, CA. Soon it developed into a weekly “open shop” for the community, which led to the need to test all the vehicles that were being completed. HRE began to take trips to the famous Rubicon trail, as well as other offroad destinations in California such as the Dusy-Ershim, Death Valley, Calico Ghost Town and of course the hammer trails in Johnson Valley. The Easter Jeep Safari in Moab quickly became an annual tradition.

   

    These trips weren’t just about having a good time in the great outdoors, but they were an important opportunity to mentor young people in the use and conservation of public lands, and not just for fourwheeling. HRE is comprised of people who enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities, like, surfing, rockclimbing, backpacking, dirt biking, watersports, etc... Soon we began to meet other people who also valued “good, wholesome entertainment and solid friendships” in the context of outdoor sports. Those early years were crucial in developing the philosophy that makes HRE what it is today.

    HRE is a way of life. It’s about people deciding to live the abundant life. It’s a decision to make a positive impact in the world and leave a legacy of respect, individual duty and responsibility. It’s the recognition that the most important things in life aren’t things, they’re family, friends and God. That’s why HRE is involved with teen group homes, summer camps, outdoor clean-up events, off-road racing, family oriented 4x4 trips and a heap of other outdoor, youth-centered activities.
